One-Day Research Workshop on “Build the Research Frame: From Concepts to Constructs”

Building Stronger Foundations for Research

The Center for Research, Sona School of Business and Management, organized a One-Day Research Workshop titled “Build the Research Frame: From Concepts to Constructs” on 2 June 2026. The workshop brought together research scholars and faculty members with the objective of strengthening their understanding of theory building, conceptualization, theoretical frameworks, and qualitative research design.

Expert Insights on Research Thinking

The programme featured an insightful session by Dr. S. Ramkumar, Faculty of OD & HR, GITAM School of Business, Bengaluru, who guided participants through the foundational principles that shape academic research. The sessions encouraged participants to look beyond data collection and understand the deeper processes through which knowledge is created, interpreted, and validated.

Participants explored key concepts including research paradigms, scientific inquiry, philosophical assumptions in research, methods of knowing, and the role of inductive and deductive reasoning in theory development.

From Observation to Theory

One of the highlights of the workshop was the use of case-based discussions to demonstrate how meaningful theories emerge from real-world observations. Through interactive learning activities, participants examined the journey from concepts to constructs and from constructs to theory.

The sessions also provided clarity on the distinction between theoretical and conceptual frameworks, the units of theory building, and the practical application of frameworks in scholarly research.

Bridging Theory and Practice

The workshop emphasized the importance of connecting theoretical understanding with practical research applications. Discussions on evaluating theory-driven research and developing robust research frameworks enabled participants to relate the concepts directly to their own research work.

The interactive format encouraged active participation, critical thinking, and meaningful academic dialogue, creating an engaging learning environment throughout the programme.

Outcomes and Participant Learning

The workshop helped participants gain:

  • A stronger understanding of theory building and conceptualization.
  • Clarity in developing research constructs and frameworks.
  • Deeper insights into qualitative research and inquiry paradigms.
  • Practical perspectives on applying theoretical concepts in research.
  • Enhanced confidence in designing and conducting scholarly research.

Conclusion

The workshop served as a valuable academic platform for research scholars and faculty members to strengthen their research capabilities and deepen their understanding of theory development. Through expert guidance, case-based learning, and interactive discussions, participants gained insights that will support more rigorous, meaningful, and impactful research in their respective fields.
