Human Values and Excellence: Building Responsible Management Professionals

As part of the First-Year MBA Orientation Programme, Sona School of Business & Management organised an insightful session on “Human Values and Excellence” by Mr. Vighnesh Chaithanya, Sevak, Chinmaya Mission.

The session encouraged students to look beyond academic and professional achievement and reflect on the values, mindset and personal capabilities that shape meaningful success.

Building the Individual Behind the Professional

The discussion focused on four important dimensions of personal and professional development:

• Continuous Learning
• Skill Development
• Mental Well-being
• Social & Emotional Learning

The session addressed some of the challenges faced by young professionals today, including stress, anxiety, excessive dependence on mobile devices and reduced attention spans. Students were encouraged to develop greater self-awareness and adopt positive approaches to managing these challenges.

Learning Through Experience

The session moved beyond discussion through engaging activities that demonstrated the importance of teamwork, individual contribution, resource management and effective utilisation of limited resources.

Students also reflected on values that are essential in both professional and personal relationships — empathy, compassion, friendship, humility, sharing, resilience and the ability to accept success and failure with balance.

A Thought-Provoking Beginning

The session encouraged students to pause and think about the kind of professionals and individuals they aspire to become. The discussions reinforced that excellence is not measured only by achievements, but also by character, emotional maturity, relationships and the ability to contribute positively to society.

The session formed a meaningful part of the First-Year MBA Orientation Programme, giving students an opportunity to reflect on the person behind the professional as they begin their management journey at Sona School of Business & Management.
